The primary goal of the STM32WL5x and STM32WLEx reference designs is to suggest a layout and corresponding Bill of Materials (BOM) for specific applications (these boards are not commercially available). Performance has been evaluated, and FCC and CE certification checks have been conducted by an independent entity. These reference designs can be manufactured using files available for download from the www.st.com website. A complete application can be prototyped due to access to all GPIOs. Sensitive layout components can be extracted and integrated into any user board design with the same PCB characteristics and feature set. The STM32WL5x and STM32WLEx reference designs come with the STM32CubeWL MCU Package. The STM32CubeWL MCU Package includes numerous software examples developed using the STM32WL Nucleo-64 board (NUCLEO-WL55JC), which can be easily adapted for STM32WL5x and STM32WLEx reference designs. A dedicated delivery is provided for radio AT_Slave firmware that is fully compatible with the selected STM32WL5x or STM32WLEx reference board. The firmware source code corresponding to the selected reference design is available on www.st.com. This associated firmware is distributed under the BSD-3-Clause license (https://opensource.org/licenses/BSD-3-Clause). Utilizing the reference designs to design the user application aids in achieving the correct RF performance and passing certification.
