Disruption of the Circle in Film, Language, and Other Cocoons

This book explores the concept of circularity in artistic and cinematic narratives, using the framework of "the break" as a lens to investigate how these narratives function and transform. It identifies and analyzes three distinct types of breaks—regressive breaks, leaps into newness, and reflexive transitions—demonstrating their significance in fostering creativity, challenging established norms, and redefining perceptions of the self and the reflexive "I." Through examples from influential filmmakers and artists such as Eisenstein, Hitchcock, and Bernini, this work illuminates how these breaks facilitate engagement with the complexities of reality and self-awareness, urging audiences to interrogate their assumptions and embrace new interpretations. It emphasizes the urgent need to disrupt familiar structures to avoid stagnation, highlighting how remaining within these confines can lead to a metaphorical cocoon, inhibiting growth and transformation. Ultimately, this study advocates for a continuous re-evaluation of perspectives and the embrace of innovative artistic expressions as a means of enhancing our understanding of the world around us.
